A Bittersweet Day

35 years ago today, my grandpa drowned in a lake and my mom miraculously lived!  She was 14 years old at the time and my grandpa was only 35 years old himself.

And then, 20 years later, my cousin Maddie was born.  So, this day, August 12th, is a very special day for us, as we remember the life of my grandpa, but we also celebrate a birthday of another family member. :)
